Second Taft Blue Planet Run Set For May 1, 2011
Stephanie Manley, a senior at The Taft School in Watertown, CT, is ogranizing her second Taft Blue Planet Run. This 5K school and community race will again raise funds for safe drinking water projects. The date is set of May 1. Although this is a local event, it will ripple around the world. Please let your friends and family know, and join the Facebook Cause.
Stephanie learned about Blue Planet Network during her semester abroad at the Island School (a school in the Bahamas focused on sustainability). "I've always been extremely interested in Evironmental Science and Conservation," she explains. "Blue Planet Run gives me a way to get involved, and encourage other people to be involved, in such a large environmental issue: water."
Taft is working hard to become a more eco-friendly school, and now having been introduced to BPR, the community is even more aware. Taft's motto is "not to be served, but to serve," and Stephanie and friends think BPR is a great way to serve others in need.
Please donate in honor of Stephanie and The Taft School.

Last Spring, despite some rainy weather, the first Taft Blue Planet Run was a success. About 20 people came out in support, and each person ran three miles each. Local vendors donated food so afterwards the runners got to eat and read up on the Blue Planet Network and the mission behind it. Blue Planet Run shoelaces were distributed and the winner, Calvin Palmer, got to take home a Blue Planet Run book as his prize. The wet weather didn't bother the crew too much and everyone had a fun morning!
A big "Thanks" goes out to local Watertown businesses that sponsored the event with delicious food: Dunkin Donuts, Sweet Basils, Chubba’s Bagel Store and La Palette Pastry Store.
And of course, thanks as well to Stephanie Manley. Last year's event brought the worlds water crisis into full view at the school and participants collected $300 in checks for the water fund.
